Here it is…
PRESS RELEASE
“Congressman Edwards welcomes open, honest public debate on the important issue of health care reform.
“Unfortunately, when one of the protest leaders in Bryan was asked last week if his group would respect Congressman Edwards’ request to honor the rights of all citizens to be heard by agreeing not to disrupt a town hall, he said, “If you’re invoking rage like Arlen Specter did the other day, he (Chet Edwards) deserves to be shouted down.”
“Sadly, statements like that make it clear that the real agenda is to disrupt, not encourage, a public discussion on health care.
“In addition to numerous meetings with health care providers, business leaders and everyday citizens, Congressman Edwards intends to have a telephone town hall meeting later this month where citizens from all 12 counties can participate in a dialogue on health care.
“Congressman Edwards will carefully study any health care reform legislation before casting his vote, but he will oppose any Canadian style, single-payer plan that socializes our health care system or prevents people from keeping the quality, private health care plan of their choice.”
Note that he is referring to a prior engagement with constituents, not the 250 peaceful protestors who asked for a meeting and signed a pledge not to disrupt the meeting.
No date was given on the Press Release as presented on the local media’s web site. I have copied it here since documents and text tend to go missing from the web these days. It was originally at URL: http://www.kbtx.com/healthcarereform/headlines/52917192.html
This release was not available on Edwards’ Official House of Representatives Site.
Let’s look at this release seritim:
The First Paragraph – No, Congressman Edwards does not “welcomes open, honest public debate on the important issue of health care reform.” He has yet to speak publicly to any constituents about it who want to speak to him about it.
Second Paragraph – Who was that person, Congressman? We record our encounters with you to make sure you don’t lie. And if you DO lie to us the way Specter lies to his constituents, we won’t let you get away with it. We won’t shout you down, but we’ll expose you for the liar you are.
ThirdParagraph: The real agenda was in front of your office TODAY, and you are referring to something a week old? You will let ONE PERSON define your constituents and not the 250 who showed up today to peacefully ask for some of your time?
Fourth Paragraph: The Founding Fathers did not have telephones, Chet. They WANTED you to meet us face-to-face.
Fifth Paragraph: The Plan before the House is not a single payer plan, but it will lead to one – which is why you can vote for this plan and say you didn’t vote for single-payer. The Plan before the House also says you can keep what you have, BUT ONCE YOU SWITCH, LEAVE, OR WANT TO GET INSURANCE IT HAS TO BE GOVERNMENT RUN INSURANCE.
I can say nothing else except that Chet Edwards lies.
And Chet acts like a Coward.
