Keeping Score: Matt Mackowiak’s Latest Misstep Gives Chet Edwards Lead Over Bill Flores 10–3

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Remember the fib Matt Mackowiak told Bill Flores to say if he was ever asked who he voted for in the 2008 election?

Chet Edwards does and scores a field goal to increase his lead.

Edwards unleashed his first commercial today, sending an unlisted link to Congressional Quarterly for the video he has posted on his YouTube Channel. Congressional Quarterly posted the video and wrote up the story here.

Here’s the video: (more…)

Meet The Real Texas 17 GOP Candidate – Matt Mackowiak

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Meet The Candidate - Matt Mackowiak. Yep, it scares us, too! ;)

Matt Mackowiak is Bill Flores’ Campaign Manager. When you hear Bill Flores speak, see his campaign material or the campaign strategy played out, or experience a tactical response from him or the campaign relative to something Chet Edwards does – you are seeing Matt Mackowiak – NOT Bill Flores.

That is my firm belief: that you are NOT seeing Bill Flores. The Bill Flores who has been described to me by dozens of party leaders and supporters is not the one you see. The one you see is trying to win on national issues and losing on local issues. He’s taking statistically calculated positions that are not in congruence with the Conservatives and Republicans in this District – but mesh perfectly with the national party’s playbook.

The quarterback is Matt Mackowiak, who in essence works for the NRCC, whether they pay him or not, because his future clients will come from the NRCC. He is The Candidate for future jobs…gunning for something important in the 2012 election cycle.

The NRCC has a playbook for national politics that includes recruiting self-financing candidates so they can save money yet still control the outcome by providing that candidate with “support” in the form of “consultants” like Matt whom they say are top-notch.

The self-financed Bill Flores has never done this before. He is smart enough to let people who know what they are doing do it, which is probably one of the keys to his success in business. The Henry Ford rule in practice: I’m not the smartest guy in this industry…so I hire the smartest guy.

However, Matt is 28, has never run a campaign before, and has only cut his teeth in the field of public relations in Washington, better known as the field of “spin.” A field he perfected as Spokesperson for Kay Bailey Hutchison…most likely the connection that got him the position with Bill, who was an ardent supporter of her gubernatorial run.

Bill is a straight shooting Texan. So are (more…)

Never Argue With A Fool…

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

You know the old saying…because people won’t be able to tell the difference.

I’ve been stuck in a silly argument with Dan Hunt, that I mentioned a few times before and you can follow by clicking this tag.

Here it ends, for multiple reasons.

Primarily, it degenerated to Dan’s calling me a liberal Edwards plant and I summarily end conversations when they get to that point, because the person on the other end has resorted to name-calling, which is a classic liberal tactic. But I allowed Dan to call me out, as if I were abandoning the conversation because his accusations were supposedly right.

I should have let them go. Aside from revealing his RINO tendencies, they simply allowed me to get distracted and therefore increased the How Bill Flores Will Lose posts by a (more…)

Matt Mackowiak, Bill Flores’ Campaign Manager: “[He] has some serious issues which need to be addressed.”

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

“How can Bill Flores prove to you he is a conservative?” my wife asks. “I mean, what actions can he take or words can he say that will change your mind?” Am I hearing these questions from the lady who up until 2 years ago pretty much voted the party line without question?

“Well, he could…he could…what about…”. Suddenly I realized that I do not have an easy sound bite answer to this question.

Proving yourself conservative is not an easy task, especially if you are not one. In fact, that’s called proving a negative – which can’t be done. However, as I discuss further down the column, if Flores is a Conservative, there are ways to prove it.

But first, let’s explore what we do know about Bill Flores and his “Conservative credentials” in TX 17. American Write-In “Chris” suggested we come up with a summary list of things, and (more…)

Republicans In The Woodwork Coming Out Of The Closet – Update 03

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

So I was encouraged to visit GOPisforme.com, a Ning social network, and check out the blog post “Where is Rob Curnock?”

I did, and you can click on the link above to see the whole scenario that played out, or you can click on this PDF to see the discussion as it was when I finally decided it was a hopeless cause.

[UPDATE: 24 July 2010 - I was informed this morning that the entire thread has been taken down by Duke. Make of that what you want - at least here we don't alter the historical record if we say or do something we regret later. This is YOUR Republican Party, friends - eating their own and then being shamed into deleting it because it shows disunity. Incidentally, today is the day after the Unity Rally in Waco, which is more interesting by who wasn't there than who was!]

Evidently the GOP is NOT for me. Big Surprise.

You’ll notice Mike Hoover, of McGregor, attacking me and not the facts I present. You’ll also notice I didn’t call anyone names or anything like that to deserve such a personal attack.

It’s a classic liberal tactic now being employed by Republicans, evidently.

In fact, that Liberal tactic is artfully explained here. We are not alone, Conservative! But wishing “conservative” and “republican” mean (more…)

What You Do Speaks So Loud That I Cannot Hear What You Say

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Saying it doesn't make it so.

There has been a flurry – no let’s make that a blizzard – of commentary concerning NOTA. Read Kristofer’s post “Voting NOTA In District 17’s Congressional Race From the Founding Fathers Perspective”. What these men said, some having put their very lives on the line reminds us of our duty when casting a vote.

I volunteered for the Rob Curnock campaign. I believed Rob was the right person in the race to defeat Chet this fall, not that he was the only candidate that could beat Chet (a conservative monkey should be able to do that) or that I wanted to go to Washington or that I wanted some sort of power/position – all motives I have been accused of having. I still believe of the five candidates, Rob was the most honorable, a man of conviction, a conservative and the best choice. There were two other candidates in that race I would have gotten behind had one of them become our candidate to defeat Chet: Timothy Delasandro and David McIntyre.

Both of these men demonstrated to me that they are also men of honor, conviction and conservative values. Bill Flores and (more…)

FLASH: District 17 Candidate Bill Flores Is Guilty By His Own Admission

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Not quite a flash, since the evidence has been around for years and the media has chosen to ignore the salient point that makes it front and center, which appeared in print on June 4 from the folks at the Cleburne-Times Review.

To whit:

The Article, Edwards Questions Flores’ Credibility, by Matt Smith, included this gem in the form of the third paragraph from the end of the article:

Said [Flores Campaign Manager Matt] Mackowiak, “Chet Edwards actively campaigned for Barack Obama… Chet helped install Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. This is the regime that he helped put in control of America. Therefore, he deserves credit for all of the bad ideas they are pushing.” (more…)

Heralding An American Write – Welcoming Scott Kimble

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Tomorrow American Writes will be publishing the first blog post from someone other than me, The American Writer.

Scott Kimble will be our first American Herald. You can read all about him and what an American Herald is by clicking on the new category at the very top of the page – American Heralds.

I am very glad to welcome Scott. He brings a conservative perspective with a “boots on the ground” experience within the Central Texas political environment, and has been intimately involved for the last year with the Rob Curnock campaign. If his first submission is any indication – you will enjoy Scott’s missives and musings quite a bit!

Scott comes out of the gate on his first post pulling no punches and heading straight between the eyes of (more…)

Texas 17 Is Going To Hell – I’m Going To Washington

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Constitutional and Conservative Bill Randall is in the runoff on June 22 in North Carolina 13. He’s against a Country Club Republican who is attempting to hide his anti-Tea Party and Pro-Choice leanings.

Constitutional and Conservative Jaynee Germond is running in Oregon 4 against a late-comer rich guy picked by the NRCC, after running for a year against another relatively regular guy in the race. The rich dude just got in and dropped a quarter million into the race. Sound familiar? The primary is tomorrow.

Constitutional and Conservative Jake Towne is in Pennsylvania. Jake is an Independent Constitutional Candidate who wants to represent District 15 – the Lehigh Valley – where my own now-liberal Dad went to school.

Constitutional and Conservative John Dennis is in California 8, the seat Nancy Pelosi holds.

Constitutional and Conservative Donald Strong is in Tennessee; Alex Snitker is in Florida; RJ Harris is in Oklahoma, as is Howard Houchen. And Tony Gentile is in Louisiana.

And these are just a few. US House and Senate Candidates.

I have been spinning my wheels on Constitution-Sovereignty-denying and recent convert to Republican Party Pro-Choicer Bill Flores and I accept now that it’s a futile effort were I to continue writing alone. All it does is take me away from the obligations I have to these people above and their genuinely Constitution-based ideologies. So I won’t be writing alone… (more…)

The Texas 17 Conservative Bandwagon Dumped A Load On Bill Flores

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

Chances are, if you were a “conservative” leader or blogger during the Texas 17 District GOP Primary, you are now a Republican Party myrmidon.

We know that Angie Cox of the Burleson Tea Party is, simply by her comment on this very blog when I made the VERY wrong assumption that she would be a Rob Curnock supporter just before the runoff.

All of the Waco Tea Partiers know that Toby Marie Walker was wooed by the RNC last fall, so we can pretty much count her in.

Richard Clark, owner of nobillfloresforcongress.com, seems to have gone to the dark side. But I think he’s been more of an ABC kind of guy than Conservative in this race (I’m not calling into question his Conservatism…I only think that it is trumped by the ABC movement). (more…)
