District 17 And The Battle At Midway

Posted By: Kristofer Cowles on Monday, July 26, 2010 @ 9:07 AM

Not to be confused with the watershed event in the Pacific Theater during World War II, or the small hamlet in East Texas – though that Midway (75852) has more in common with the topic du jour.

But only because it happens to reside in the 17th Congressional District of Texas.

But even that is insignificant, and the likelihood that either candidate has even visited Midway, except to drive through or fly over it, is pretty remote.

But you can be guaranteed there are Chet Edwards supporters there, and Bill Flores supporters there. I know, because one of each has contacted me.

Midways is split between Congressional District’s, too, like its County, Madison. So it’s a nice, symbolic setting, virtually, for the midway point of the General Election.

The General Election began 104 days ago with the conclusion of the Republican Party Primary electing Bill Flores as the nominee.

The General Election is in 100 days, which will determine who will be sent from their District to Washington.

At American Writes, we have achieved the dubious distinction of being called Liberal plants for the Chet Edwards campaign because, instead of assessing the facts that we present here, people have chosen to attack the writers.

It’s caused enough unease in the GOP and the Bill Flores campaign that I think the facts that are permanently out there and discussed here are certain to arise in anyone’s Google search as they start to research candidates in these last three months…especially during the critical six weeks leading up to Election Day.

We know Chet Edwards has these facts, and had them before we did. He will exploit them, to Bill Flores’ discomfort and discomfit.

So, despite the protestations of people who claim we have a Liberal agenda and are on the Edwards payroll (they will protest, because this next phase will easily put the lie to their claims), American Writes will focus on the record of Mr. Edwards as well as the campaign practices of the Congressman.

Does this leave Bill Flores off the hook? No. If he does something worth reporting on, we will do so. But nothing has changed since he entered the race in December – the facts certainly haven’t – and our interest is keeping your interest.

We have the benefit of massive research and experience with the Texas 17 GOP which we will report on that continues to show it is not a Conservative coalition; which has come to the front because of their adamant support for Flores despite near unanimity amongst the leadership that Flores is not a Conservative but merely a RINO, and because the GOP has thrown its Conservative members to the wolves in exchange for Flores’ possibility of winning, they have opened themselves up as fair game for American Writes revealing the Truth about each of them individually.

In essence, the GOP is sinking its own ship, and we’re not going down with it.

And we have never been a part of the failed policies and ideals of the Democratic Party, from its most liberal factions to its most Conservative pariahs. A Conservative Democrat is still a Liberal. And we will focus on Mr. Edwards and his Liberal record, and give you a sense of how much of your vote he has already bought, by exploring the pork servings and the leaders who have lined up to support him – some of whom may surprise you!

So we are Midway. We don’t so much leave Flores behind as we take on the second front in this two front war.

Conservatism vs. Liberalism, with the Axis Powers being the Democrats, Liberals, and RINOs on one front, and the Republicans being an ally in the sense that the Soviet Union was a United States ally – until the war was over.

After Election Day, American Writes will still be on the side of Conservatism and Truth. We will have fired salvos of Truth at every enemy of it.

Will we have re-acquired the GOP as a tentative ally or will the Cold War ensue, with the GOP retaining its liberal bent because it has a RINO as its de facto leader?

Or will we have re-acquired the Liberal standard-bearer for the Conservative District for one last performance before the District is gerrymandered in half?

We’ll see. But that doesn’t matter to the unchanging Truth. And right now, our crosshairs of Truth are on Chet Edwards and the deeper liberalism in Texas 17 that even Bill Flores can’t match.

If History shows us anything, we will probably be accused of being a Republican Plant on the Bill Flores payroll soon enough…

The northern and central portions of CD-17 do have cause to celebrate a conservative victory, in Brian Birdwell’s election to the Texas Senate from SD-22. Hopefully that’s a good sign that conservative principles are still important here. And as I have made connections with more grassroots folks around here, I’m convinced many of them are conservatives too.

Brian Birdwell’s victory is a very good sign, and I was glad to hear of it and be peripherally aware of it through Scott Kimble’s work on the campaign. Rob Curnock and I have talked extensively about his friendship with Brian, and I look forward to meeting him soon.

Looking forward to your blog, Colin. Watch out, you’ll have to either be strong or ineffective. It’s a tough choice, and everyone is a critic!

Let us know when you go live, and we’ll promote heavily!
