Kristofer Dylan Cowles, a professional public speaker, studied Speech Communications (with a focus on Organizational Rhetoric), English, and History in College while attending the University of Texas at Austin from 1987 to 1991 and Texas A&M University from 1991 to 1995.
Mr. Cowles first realized his abilities in public speaking through his service in Circle K International (CKI), the college level of the Kiwanis International family of service organizations.
In his first official position as chair of the membership committee of the University of Texas chapter of CKI, he quickly recruited 18 members into the club. The induction ceremony he wrote that semester has become the standard in many Circle K chapters across Texas, Oklahoma, and the world.
Kristofer’s leadership in CKI grew steadily. He helped his Longhorn peers and mentors to bring their chapter to the forefront of the international organization.
Then he transferred to a declining Texas A&M University CKI. Officers rarely served a full term, membership was on a crash course with nonexistence, and chapter events were sparsely attended.
Cowles energetically accepted the mantle of Chapter President. Almost immediately he gathered a team which engineered one of the most dramatic turnarounds in CKI’s history. By reinstating proven organizational techniques and developing creative new approaches to traditional challenges, Cowles instilled in the souls of his fellow members a drive to serve more, to complain less, and to savor every opportunity to improve the quality of life for others.
Free from the shackles of fear and determined to make a lasting difference, members instigated lively ”In-De-Face“ recruitment strategies; a program developed by Kristofer during his first year in CKI. Before completing his first semester in office, President Cowles and his loyal team had turned the chapter from a handful of desperados into over sixty active humanitarians. At the international convention in the summer of 1993, Circle K’s international organization recognized the 76 members of the Texas Aggie chapter with the highest award for annual growth.
In the meantime, the Texas-Oklahoma District of CKI was abuzz with news of the Texas A&M chapter becoming the sixth-largest in the world. The district had suffered years of hardship, but was nevertheless preparing for an upswing. Each of the district’s 400 members seemed to be looking for the elusive way out of a downward spiral. The Texas A&M chapter apparently had the answer.
The need for Cowles to expand his Midas touch was much more obvious to others than to himself. The magic of his success is that it was not his own. His shared vision was only the catalyst in a philosophical revolution that decentralized traditional leadership roles into a structure of delegated responsibilities demanding leadership and creativity from every member in order to best pursue the group ideals of selfless service. Members not only participated in every step of the decision-making process, but they assumed active roles in leading their assigned segment of the organization. The resulting organization was one in which every member spent equal amounts of time as leaders, followers and public servants.
In the Spring of 1993, Cowles and running mate Cassandra Nitsch, the Texas A&M Chapter Secretary, took their methods, in much more specific terms, on a campaign trail unprecedented in scope. Despite heavy competition from district officers, Cowles and Nitsch were, on an unprecedented single ticket, elected Governor and Secretary, respectively, of the Texas-Oklahoma District of Circle K International at the annual district convention.
Governor Cowles led the district in much the same way as he led his chapter, and with much the same success. Concluding his leadership in CKI in 1995 and duplicating it in countles arenas elsewhere, his team, leadership, delegation and continued success is based on trust, honor and teamwork founded in the universla commonality of The Golden Rule. Responsibilities are spread widely enough so that no one feels overly taxed by one’s duties. If challenges become too great, one can safely rely on an abundance of volunteers.
When Kristofer Dylan Cowles is involved, every measure of organizational growth, both tangible and intangible, is on the rise. Personal productivity, event attendance, publicity and peace of mind — all seem to increase without bound. Cowles’ leadership style has conquered many previously insurmountable obstacles. His message relies heavily on common sense, focuses on interpersonal relationships, and emphasizes the ultimate victory of the human spirit over every worldly antagonist. Cowles draws strength from extraordinary tribulations in his lifelong experience, as you will no doubt hear in his poignant anecdotes. He draws an audience with his relentlessly spontaneous humor. His innate power to motivate springs from his deep-seeded love for every member of the human race. For Kristofer Dylan Cowles, people-building is a way of life. Be forewarned that Kristofer’s presentations are highly interactive. I encourage you to open your mind and heart to his timeless message.
